4K is here…
Summer time is an opportune season to ring the changes and that is exactly what leading Content Management Facility INTERVIDEO are doing by offering a new 4K service within a new content Encode, Transcode and QC suite optimised with a fluid 4K workflow at their St Johns Wood premises.
Creating the Suite
6 months in the planning the suite has been designed by Intervideo Technical Director Gerry Wade, who has been working closely with Technology Solutions Company Jigsaw24 in Central London’s Golden Square.
Gerry Wade explains. “We spent many months looking at a suitable upgrade path from our existing FCP7 platforms and wanted this new build to serve as an additional Controlled Monitoring QC suite which is 4K capable”. “We will also need to manipulate 4K content suitable for international distribution”.
The Tech and 4K Workflow
The suite is based around an Ultra-Fast Apple Mac Pro workstation interfaced with a Black Magic Ultra Studio 4K Extreme and the latest Da Vinci Resolve 12 Editing and Grading software with 16TB of local NAS storage.
Critical Picture Monitoring and Assessment is provided by a SONY BVM-X300 30” Trimaster 4K HDR OLED Display, with Test & Measurement provided by a Tektronix WVR-8020 and an AJA KUMO 16X4 4K Matrix switcher. London based Jigsaw24 supplied most of the new hardware.
Additionally, INTERVIDEO has installed the latest Alchemist XF file based Conversion platform from Snell advanced Media. This provides super Motion compensation Conversions compared to the Alchemist Ph.C HD baseband SDI platform and is much improved when dealing with low frame rates such as 23.98 and 24p.
What this Means
Intervideo General Manager Tony Weeks explains
“Within the next few months our clients will be delivering 4K content for us to QC and repurpose. It was important we took the time and care to source the right hardware and software to service this demand”
